The Highest Free Standing Mountain
Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa. With a snow-capped peak and two dormant volcanoes (Kibo and Mawenzi), as well as one extinct volcano (Shira), there’s a lot to experience here. Think: climbing, paragliding, crater camping, mountain biking, nature walking and more. Mount Kilimanjaro, which stands at 19,341 feet, was declared a National Park in 1973, officially opened for tourism in 1977, and was then declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987 and a Natural Wonder of Africa in 2013.
